Service projects

In our commitment to service, our projects and programs include:

The Gazebo Project

We refurbished the Rotary-built gazebo at the Wallowa County Courthouse with paint and a new roof.

Triangle Park
Club members initiated and maintained the Triangle Park at Main and Eighth streets in Joseph.

Youth Exchange Program
We sponsor local high schoolers as exchange students to foreign countries and foreign students in exchanges to Wallowa County.

Coats for Kids
We provide new winter coats for local children whose families can't afford them.

Project Salvador
The club provides scholarships to students in poor areas of rural El Salvador, where girls are discouraged from seeking higher education.

Highway Cleanup
Twice a year, we collect trash along a stretch of Oregon Route 82 between Enterprise and Joseph.

Lostine River Run
The club sponsors a popular annual run to raise scholarship funds.

Rotary Spelling Bee
As a fundraiser and to promote literacy in a fun-filled way, we stage an annual community spelling bee for participants of all ages. Funds raised are shared between Rotary's scholarship fund and a charity selected by the winning spellers.

Job Shadow Day
We arrange for local students to spend a half-day observing a job to help them decide whether it's the career for them.

Scholarships
We provide scholarships for graduating high school students.

Chief Joseph Days food booth
During the Chief Joseph Days Rodeo, Rotarian sell burgers and other food items as a major club fundraiser.

Project Heartbeat AEDs
We support Project Heartbeat, a nonprofit that installs automatic external defibrillators throughout Wallowa County and trains residents in their use in case of cardiac arrest.
